A Thailand travel agent conference will bring together Cambodian and Thai agents and tour operator this weekend. Agents will discussing ways of boosting tourism between the two countries in the face of an ongoing border dispute.

The meeting will take place in a coastal city of Preah Sihanouk province, which is about 230 km south of Phnom Penh. 28 Cambodian travel agents and 66 Thai travel agents are expected to attend the meeting. They are hopeful that as military tensions on the border region ease and a sense of normalcy returns to the border region tourism will also rebound. Travel associations in both countries want to work together to their mutual benefit, as both sides will be promoting their tourist attractions in the neighboring country. The number of Thai tourists visiting Cambodia has steadily declined since the border dispute began in July 2008.

Asia rooms in Ko Lanta, Thailand are a well kept secret. This small island is starting to gain international attention thanks to its proximity to the island of Ko Phi Phi, which was featured in the movie "The Beach." Ko Lanta features 9 beaches and soaring limestone cliffs, not to mention crystal clear water.

The main city on the island is Saladan. It is a colorful town full of dive shops and bungalow hotels where rooms can be rented for just $6 a night. At the higher end resorts like the 4 star Crown Lanta, you will have much more privacy and luxury for no more than $100 a night in the slow season. It's very cheap to eat in Ko Lantan, where you can buy a delicious bowl of steaming spicy prawns for $1 to $3 and a spicy green or yellow curry for even less.
